Amazon Web Service ETL Tool and Its Features

The ETL (short for Extract, Transform, Load) tool is used to combine several databases regardless of their location into a centralized data storage facility or a data warehouse. The Amazon Web Service (AWS) is a platform that is based in the cloud and offers cutting-edge services such as content delivery and high storage and computing capabilities.

There are three functions of the AWS ETL tool. First, it extracts data from a source database, transforms the data so that it matches the structure of the target database, and finally, loads the data into the intended target. The process is fully automated and hence insulated from any errors or data loss as there is no human intervention required.

There are several benefits of the AWS ETL tool that makes it ideal for database migration.

First, the AWS ETL tool loads data in minutes, almost in real-time, and greatly helps businesses when fast analytics is required. On the other hand, manual loading of data is very time-consuming especially when loading petabytes of data.

Further, as against previous methods, the need to install and configure additional drivers and applications can be dispensed with when an AWS ETL tool is used for database migration. Since the data movement is initiated directly from the AWS Management Console changes in the source database are replicated seamlessly to the target database through the Change Data Capture feature. This is done continuously without a break provided the source and the target databases are always kept in sync.

Finally, the source database is always functional when the AWS ETL tool is used, thereby doing away with the need for any downtime.
