Why Should You Migrate Databases with Amazon DMS

With Amazon DMS (Amazon Database Migration Service), you can optimize the migration of databases from on-premises databases to the cloud or from one cloud provider to another. The migration activity may be a one-time process from the source to the target database or continuous replication of data between the two provided they are always kept in sync. Amazon DMS also facilitates database migration between NoSQL databases, relational databases, and data warehouses.

Migration with Amazon DMSis fast and seamless as managing, tracking, and deploying the infrastructure for migration is auto-managed by the software once it is configured. DMS supports the complete infrastructure for database migration including software patching, error reporting, and tracking of hardware and software. This is against previous methods where additional hardware and software had to be installed for database migration.

Database migration with Amazon DMS provides great flexibility and unlimited data storage options. Users have to pay only for the quantum of resources used and download additional storage capacity in minutes whenever there is a sudden spike in demand. In older databases, flat fees were charged regardless of what is used. Hence Amazon DMSmigration is a very cost-effective proposition too.

A very important feature of Amazon DMS is the failover mode. In the case of an outage of the primary server, the secondary servers are automatically triggered and the work goes on without interruptions. After the outage is resolved, the primary server is automatically updated with all the changes that took place in the break period.

Finally, Amazon DMSensures complete data security, encrypting data at source with the AWS Key Management Service and data on the move with Secure Socket Layer (SSL).
